On board of our 4x4 vehicles we arrive at the village of Trecastagni and along a road, visiting the old chestnuts forest of Tarderia, we stop at the ancient lava flow of 1792 to give you a detailed explanation of the volcanoes in particular of Mount Etna. Again by our jeep we proceed in direction of the Lava tube. Equipped with helmets and flashlights we walk inside a beautiful lava tube (lava cave). We continue to the Silvestri’s Craters and Rifugio Sapienza (2000m a.s.l) before we stop on the lava sand, to observe the last manifestation of vegetables as the “Astracalus” and the “Saponaria” (succulents) and have a walk on the most recently lava ashes. Visit and trekking around the Silvestri’s Craters (formed in 1889). Breathtaking scenary of Catania and his gulf. Trekking duration: about 40mins, medium/easy difficulty. Relax in refreshment area in a pine forest and here you can taste our Sicilian appetizer with homemade bread and Etna wines (red or white). After the lunch break we go to visit the village of Aci Castello, guided tour of the castle and the museum. From here we reach the near fishermen village of Aci Trezza, famous for its famous “Faraglioni” (Ulisse and Cyclops’ legend) and place where Giovanni Verga (storyteller) set his story “I Malavoglia”. Also we could observe the lava basaltic and the first eruptive sub-marine manifestations of Etna, it is just in this point our volcano was born.
